6 inches … in April?!Anyone who has spoken with me since moving to Denver has heard me repeat in a sing-song voice, similar to a small child’s toy, the kind that people buy for other people’s kids and not their own, “I love the snow, I love the snow!” On and on (and on) I’ve gushed about the white powdery stuff and how marvelous it is that Denver is blessed with the stuff. Everyone morning that I woke up and found the city blanketed in snow, I was in awe of the stuff, like I’d never seen it or something, like I’d never been on umpteen or so ski trips with the Correll fam.

A few days ago, though, my internal record player did not get stuck on the “I Love the Snow!!” tune when I woke up to an April SNOW shower, oh no. In fact, I think the record player died, or maybe it just needed some new batteries. Do record players have batteries? Hm, don’t think so. Anyhow, I was not suddenly manifested into a morning person by sight of the white cloud that covered my car that morning, which is what usually happens when it snows (even before my coffee.)

Instead, my conversation with the snow went something like this:

ME: WHAT THE HECK?! But it’s APRRRRIL!

SNOW: (No response.)

ME: *Long, drawn-out whine in the style of a two-year-old.*

SNOW: (No response.)

ME: But I don’t even know where my snow boots are, or my mittens, or my scarf, or all that other stuff you need to live here! And I need to leave for work right now!

SNOW: (Rolls her eyes.)

That was basically the conversation. It went on for another minute or two, you know, time I could have spent looking for my coat or, I don’t know, scraping the windshield, but that was the gist of it.

Eventually, I sucked it up and cleaned off the car using a piece of cardboard that was for an unknown reason conveniently located in my car where the ice scraper should have been, and drove to work with numb hands as fast as I could go, given that my windshield was still covered with a fine dusting of snow.

At least I didn’t cry, I give myself that.
